Professional MIG & TIG Welding Services in Las Vegas | Ace of Spades Custom RV

Professional MIG & TIG Welding Services in Las Vegas: Precision Craftsmanship That Turns Ideas Into Reality

When most people think of Ace of Spades Custom RV and Repair in Las Vegas, they picture stunning RV renovations, horse trailer living quarters, and one-of-a-kind specialty vehicles.

What many don’t realize is that behind every dramatic custom build is serious metal fabrication skill — especially expert MIG and TIG welding performed by owner James West.

With 26 years of hands-on experience, James doesn’t just weld.

He designs, fabricates, and finishes complex metal work that has to look perfect, perform under real-world conditions, and stand up to the extreme heat of Southern Nevada.

One of the clearest examples of that skill is the full renovation of a 1998 Peterbilt 379, better known as the Barrett Truck, featuring two massive, fully functional aluminum smoke stacks shaped like scaled-up Barrett .50-caliber sniper rifles.

That project, which has racked up 12 million views on our Instagram account @aceofspadesrv, shows exactly what our welding services can deliver.

Why Welding Matters in Custom RV and Specialty Vehicle Work

RVs, horse trailers, and converted commercial trucks live hard lives.

Frames flex. Exhaust systems get hot. Aluminum body panels expand and contract.

Structural repairs and custom modifications need welds that are strong, clean, and correctly matched to the material.

Poor welding can create weak points, corrosion, or failures that show up hundreds of miles down the road.

Professional welding, on the other hand, becomes invisible in the best way — it simply works and lasts.

At Ace of Spades we handle both everyday repairs and highly specialized fabrication:

  • Structural steel and aluminum frame repairs
  • Custom exhaust, bumper and smoke stack fabrication
  • Bumper, step, and hitch modifications
  • Trailer frame and living-quarters structural work
  • Custom brackets, mounts, and reinforcements
  • One-off artistic and thematic metal pieces

Whether the job is a cracked frame member on a fifth-wheel or a pair of 13-foot rifle-shaped stacks on a classic Peterbilt, the same standards apply.

Meet the Welder: James West’s 26 Years of Experience

James West is a Certified Red Seal Master RV Technician with experience that spans far beyond typical RV service.

Over more than two decades he has worked across multiple trades, including metal fabrication.

He performs both MIG (Metal Inert Gas) and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding in-house.

MIG welding is excellent for structural work and thicker materials.

It is fast, strong, and well-suited to many steel applications common in trailer frames and chassis modifications.

TIG welding is the precision method. It gives superior control, cleaner beads, and is the preferred process for aluminum and thinner materials where appearance and heat control matter.

The Barrett Truck smoke stacks required extensive aluminum TIG work.

James designed, cut, welded, ground, and finished the stacks without relying on CNC machines or computer-generated templates — pure skill, measuring, and craftsmanship.

That combination of experience and hands-on ability is rare.

Many shops outsource fabrication.

We keep it in-house so quality stays consistent from design through final paint.

The Barrett Truck: A Showcase of Aluminum Welding Skill

The 1998 Peterbilt 379 project (completed around April 2026) stands as one of our most visible demonstrations of welding capability.

The truck received a full custom renovation that transformed it into a striking specialty vehicle.

The standout feature is a pair of enormous 12’6″ working smoke stacks designed as replicas of the Barrett .50-caliber sniper rifle.

These were not decorative stick-on pieces. They are functional exhaust stacks, roughly 12–13 feet tall, fabricated from aluminum.

James handled the design, cutting, aluminum welding, grinding, and preparation for paint.

The result is both mechanically sound and visually dramatic — the kind of detail that stops people at shows and online.

The project generated massive attention (multiple millions of views across platforms) precisely because the fabrication is real.

People can tell the difference between something mass-produced and something built by hand with intention.

Barrett representatives even visited during SEMA week 2025, underscoring how distinctive the work is.

This same approach applies to smaller jobs.

Whether you need a reinforced trailer frame, custom aluminum body work, or specialized exhaust components, the mindset remains the same: measure carefully, choose the right process (MIG or TIG), execute cleanly, and finish properly.

MIG vs. TIG: Choosing the Right Process for the Job

Not every weld is the same. Understanding the strengths of each process helps explain why we offer both.

MIG Welding: MIG uses a continuously fed wire electrode and shielding gas.

It is efficient for longer welds and thicker steel.

Many structural repairs, frame reinforcements, and steel fabrications on trailers and truck chassis are completed with MIG.

It produces strong joints relatively quickly and is highly effective when appearance is secondary to strength and speed.

TIG Welding: TIG uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode and a separate filler rod.

The welder has precise control over heat and filler addition.

This makes TIG ideal for aluminum, stainless steel, and thinner materials.

The beads are typically cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing, which matters on visible components such as custom exhaust stacks, body panels, or decorative metalwork.

The Barrett stacks were a textbook case for aluminum TIG.

Having both capabilities in one shop means we select the best process for each section of a project instead of forcing one method to do everything.

Why Las Vegas Vehicle Owners Choose Ace of Spades for Welding

Las Vegas presents unique challenges. Extreme heat, intense UV, and frequent temperature swings put extra stress on metal and welds.

Materials expand and contract. Corrosion can accelerate if joints are not properly prepared and protected.

Experience working in this environment matters.

James’s 26 years include countless projects completed under local conditions.

We understand material selection, joint design, and finishing techniques that hold up in the desert.

We also prioritize clean, professional results that look as good as they perform — important for both show vehicles and daily-use trailers.

Clients appreciate that the same person who discusses the design is often the one performing the critical welds. Communication stays direct, and accountability is clear.

From Concept to Finished Product

A typical custom welding or fabrication project follows a straightforward process:

  1. Consultation and assessment — We look at the vehicle or RV, discuss goals, materials, and constraints.
  2. Design and planning — Measurements, material selection, and process choice (MIG, TIG, or combination).
  3. Fabrication — Cutting, fitting, welding, grinding, and fitting checks.
  4. Finishing — Prep and clear protection as needed.
  5. Installation and final inspection — Ensuring everything fits, functions, and meets the agreed standard.

For complex showpieces like the Barrett stacks, the design phase includes significant creative problem-solving.

For repair work, the focus is structural integrity and longevity.

We also do metal sculptures.
